Marketing Society of Kenya and ZuriPlanet Africa LTD Sign MOU to Promote Sustainability and Climate Literacy
Nairobi, Kenya, 24 November 2024—The Marketing Society of Kenya (MSK) and ZuriPlanet Africa LTD are delighted to announce the signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to embark on a collaborative journey. This partnership will focus on integrating climate literacy into marketing education and promoting sustainable business practices among its members, all of which will contribute to a more sustainable future.
The MOU signing ceremony, which took place on 24 November 2024, is a significant milestone in the journey towards a more sustainable future. It initiates a strategic partnership that will bring tangible benefits to marketing professionals. By integrating sustainability into marketing practices, this partnership will enhance marketers’ professional skills, broaden their network, and open up new opportunities for career growth. This ceremony is not just a formality but a symbol of our shared commitment to sustainability and climate literacy.
A New Chapter in Sustainability
The partnership between MSK and ZuriPlanet Africa LTD is a one-of-a-kind collaboration that aims to integrate sustainability into marketing practices and broader business strategies. What makes this partnership truly unique is the fusion of MSK’s extensive network and influence within the marketing industry with ZuriPlanet’s sustainability and climate education expertise.
This distinctive alliance brings together two leading organisations and offers an unparalleled comprehensive approach to sustainability, from education to practice. It has the potential to significantly reduce carbon emissions, promote sustainable business practices, and inspire other sectors to adopt environmentally accountable strategies. By demonstrating the feasibility and benefits of sustainable marketing, we aim to shift the entire marketing industry’s approach to sustainability, making it a standard practice rather than a niche concept.
Empowering Through Education
One of the key objectives of the MOU is for ZuriPlanet to train MSK members on Carbon Literacy and educate them on how marketers can reduce their carbon footprints. Carbon Literacy®, defined by the Carbon Literacy Project, is “an awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis.”
These customised training sessions, developed by ZuriPlanet, will equip participants with the knowledge to comprehend the impacts of carbon emissions and implement sustainable practices within their operations. The training will be conducted in a workshop format, encouraging interactive learning and practical application of the knowledge gained, igniting a passion for making a difference.
Organisations that train many employees to be Carbon Literate can be accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project as Carbon Literate Organizations (CLO), a prestigious recognition of their commitment to reducing carbon footprints. This accreditation enhances brand reputation and attracts eco-conscious consumers and partners who value and support businesses working towards sustainability.
“Today’s partnership with ZuriPlanet Africa LTD underscores our commitment to driving positive change within the marketing industry and beyond,” said Mr Edward Oswe, Chief Executive Officer of the Marketing Society of Kenya. “By integrating sustainability into our core practices, we can lead by example and inspire other sectors to adopt environmentally responsible strategies. This partnership aligns perfectly with our mission to promote excellence in marketing and ZuriPlanet’s commitment to empowering African communities through Carbon Literacy training, among other sustainability initiatives, making it a strategic fit for both organisations.”
Collaborative Efforts for Greater Impact
ZuriPlanet Africa LTD, known for its innovative approach to sustainability and community engagement, will work closely with MSK to develop and implement initiatives that promote climate action. As part of this, ZuriPlanet will train MSK members in the UN-accredited Carbon Literacy course, a key component of our sustainability education. This prestigious certification ensures that the training meets international standards for climate education and equips marketing professionals in Kenya with globally recognised credentials.
“Partnering with the Marketing Society of Kenya provides us with a unique opportunity to extend our reach and impact,” said Mr. Michael Esilaba, Executive Director of ZuriPlanet Africa LTD. “Together, we can drive significant progress towards a more sustainable and climate-resilient future for Kenya. We invite you to join us in this journey by participating in our training programs, attending events, and supporting our initiatives. Together, we can make a difference.”
